Safety, Comfort, and Savings in the New Year

When it comes to HVAC maintenance, if you aren’t a step ahead, you are already a step behind, and the New Year is the most memorable time to schedule an appointment and maintain the system that is keeping you warm during these Pacific Northwest winter months.  Below are some things to consider.

Check Your Calendar

When was the last time your HVAC system had a date?  Like people, HVAC units need to be cared for and need a little company, in this case an HVAC company.  If you can’t remember when the last time your system had a maintenance check, servicing, and/or cleaning, it is past time to pick up the phone and make an appointment for an HVAC tune-up.

HVAC Filtering

Ideally, your air filter should be checked or replaced many times throughout the year, although many hesitate to do it themselves. The filter can often be in hard-to-reach places and if you don’t feel comfortable checking or replacing it yourself, no worries: an HVAC technician will be happy to do it during a maintenance check at your home.  Keep in mind that the size of the filter is of supreme importance; any gaps around the edges of the filter means that you are not protected from the particles blowing through the system.

The Thermostat

Have you noticed that in the winter months, sometimes you can actually feel too warm at night?  This is an indication that your programmable thermostat is not being used to its fullest.  For most people, cooler temperatures during sleep are preferred; in fact, cooler bedroom temperatures are recommended by experts for longer and deeper sleep.

Therefore, if you don’t have a programmable thermostat, it is highly recommended that you get one – among other functions, they allow you to set different temperature setting for waking and sleeping hours.  This will not only provide better sleep for many, but you will end up saving on your utility bill as well. A technician can help here as well, explaining the different programming functions.

Starting the New Year New

If your HVAC system is dated and seems to be limping along year after year, perhaps it is time to start fresh and invest in a new system that will return big savings down the road.  The system you choose should be appropriate for your home and your preferences, and a technician can take all of the mystery out of what might be best for you.

  • Heat pumps allow you to minimize the use of a furnace, central air unit and maximize efficiency for the maximum comfort and can bring as much as 40% savings on utility bills – not a bad return on investment right away.

  • Ductless systems are a specialty of Entek HVAC of Vancouver, Washington. “Upgrade to a ductless heating and cooling system and enjoy year-round comfort while saving 25-50 percent on your electric heating bill.”

  • High efficiency furnaces “afford big benefits and savings to customers. Using at least 30% less fuel and energy than older furnaces, switching to a high efficiency furnace means big cuts in energy costs.”

  • Thermostats and controls are vital to a modern household, not only to control temperature, but to control your utility bill. “A programmable thermostat is a beneficial investment that provides you with savings and convenience, allowing you to fine-tune the temperature in your home at any time of the day. Enjoy the optimal level of comfort regardless of the season and let your programmable thermostat save you money by automatically adjusting the temperatures.”
